Privacy Policy

Last Updated: 18 April 2026  •  Effective: 18 April 2026
Climate Crusaders
1. Introduction

Climate Crusaders ("Platform") is operated by BlueTerrain LLP. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect your personal data when you use our mobile application, website, and related services.

This policy complies with: IT Act 2000, SPDI Rules 2011, Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, Consumer Protection Act 2019, and Indian Contract Act 1872.

By accessing or using our Services, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Services.
2. Information We Collect
Registration & Account Information

When you create an account, we collect: first name, last name, username, email address, mobile number, gender, and a profile picture. Passwords are stored in hashed form; we never store plain-text passwords.

User-Generated Content

Challenge submissions (photos, videos, text), blog posts, comments, event attendance proof, and proposed challenges.

Automatically Collected Data

Device type/model, OS version, app version, network status, error logs, crash reports, challenge history, points balance, carbon footprint estimates, and in-app navigation patterns.

Third-Party Sign-In

If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, profile picture, and the unique account identifier provided by those services. We do not receive your Google or Apple password. Sign-in with Google or Apple is optional.

Permissions You Grant Inside the App
  • Camera (Profile Picture only) — the live camera is used only when you capture or update your profile picture (during registration or from the Edit Profile screen). All other media uploads — challenges, events, blogs, eco-activities, help attachments — use your device gallery via the system image picker; the camera is never opened for those.
  • Photo Gallery (system picker) — when you upload a photo or video from your device, the app opens your operating system's standard photo picker. On Android 13 and newer, and on iOS, this picker runs without any persistent media permission — you pick a specific file, and only that file is shared with the app. On older Android (12 and below), the legacy storage permission is requested only on demand.
  • Notifications — only if you accept the system prompt.

We do not request Location, Microphone, Contacts, SMS, Call Logs, Body Sensors, Calendar, or any background-access permission. No background data collection happens. The app has no ability to record audio or track your geographic location.

3. How We Use Your Information
  • Service Delivery: Account management, challenge participation, points and rewards, referral programme.
  • Communication: Push notifications, transactional and informational emails, in-app alerts, support responses.
  • Personalization: Content recommendations and age-appropriate display. Events are organised by city (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai) based on the city information each event is tagged with — not based on your device location.
  • Safety & Integrity: Fraud prevention, policy enforcement, and verification of challenge submissions using AI-assisted image analysis and human moderation (see Section 3A).
  • Analytics & Improvement: Aggregate usage patterns, performance monitoring.
  • Advertising & Partnerships: We display sponsored challenges and promotional content from vetted partners. We may, in future, share aggregated, non-identifiable demographic insights with partner organisations to help them understand the overall user base — we do not share personal data with any partner or advertiser.
3A. AI-Assisted Image Verification

For challenge or event submissions that require the participant to appear in the media, Climate Crusaders may verify authenticity using AI-assisted image analysis together with manual human moderation.

When verification is required, the system may compare the face in the user's registered profile photo with the face in the submitted image or video to confirm that the same individual appears in both. This comparison may be supported by third-party services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) Rekognition. The API returns only a similarity score and nothing else.

This verification process occurs only after users provide explicit consent at the time of submission. Images and videos are used solely for authenticity verification, fraud prevention, moderation, and related audit purposes. They are not used for advertising, profiling, or training AI models.

Submission media may be temporarily retained for moderation, dispute resolution, and security purposes, after which it may be deleted or anonymized. Climate Crusaders does not store facial recognition templates or maintain biometric identification databases.

Users may request deletion of their submitted media or contact us regarding verification decisions by emailing info@climate-crusaders.com.

4. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.

We share data only with the following service providers and sub-processors under strict contractual obligations:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) India — ap-south-1 (Mumbai): Cloud hosting, database, file storage (user photos, videos, certificates), and Rekognition face-comparison service. Data stays within Indian data centres.
  • Google LLC: "Sign in with Google" authentication. Google receives our app ID; we receive your name, email, and Google account identifier. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
  • Apple Inc.: "Sign in with Apple" authentication (iOS only). Apple receives our app ID; we receive your name (once), an Apple relay email, and an Apple user identifier. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
  • MongoDB, Inc. (Atlas, ap-south-1): Managed database for the sandbox/testing environment. Production data resides on our own AWS infrastructure.
  • Email sending (SMTP) provider: Used to deliver OTPs, verification emails, password resets, and grievance acknowledgements. No marketing emails are sent from this channel.

Partners and sponsors receive only anonymized aggregate data — never personally identifiable information.

4A. Advertisements & Sponsored Content

The app displays advertisements and sponsored challenges from partners and sponsors curated by BlueTerrain LLP. Such content is clearly identified and labelled as "Sponsored" or "Advertisement" where applicable. Clicking on such content may redirect you to a third-party website or service for which we are not responsible. We do not use any third-party advertising SDK (such as AdMob, Meta Audience Network, Unity Ads, or similar), we do not collect or share your device advertising identifier (IDFA / AAID) for advertising purposes, and we do not perform cross-app or cross-site tracking for advertising. All ad selection is performed on our own server based on non-personal attributes (e.g., city-level event, general category).

4B. Carbon-Saving Estimates

Carbon savings, carbon footprint values, and environmental impact figures shown in the app are estimates based on commonly used emission factors and simplified assumptions. Actual results may vary depending on individual behaviour, location, technology, and real-world conditions. These figures are provided for educational and motivational purposes and should not be treated as precise scientific measurements.

4C. Third-Party Content

The app may display previews, summaries, thumbnails, headlines, and links of third-party content such as sustainability articles, news, and videos sourced from publicly available websites to help users learn about environmental issues and sustainable living in one place. Users are redirected to the original publisher when accessing full content. We do not claim ownership of any third-party content displayed within the app.

5. Data Storage & Security

Data is stored on AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai, ap-south-1). Security measures include:

  • HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit; encryption at rest
  • Industry-standard password hashing (never plain text)
  • Role-based access controls and JWT authentication
  • Regular security reviews and periodic assessments
6. Data Retention
  • Active account data — retained for as long as the account exists.
  • Account deletion — on clicking Settings → Delete Account, your profile, submissions, comments, and chat history are scheduled for permanent deletion. A short internal buffer (up to 30 days) is kept for abuse-prevention and legal record, after which data is hard-deleted.
  • Challenge/event submissions (photos, videos, certificates): retained in cloud storage for as long as the account is active, and deleted when the account is deleted.
  • Error and audit logs: retained up to 3 years for security and legal compliance.
  • Support/help-chat conversations: retained for 2 years after last message or until account deletion (whichever is earlier).
7. Your Rights Under the DPDP Act, 2023
  • Right to Access: View your personal data through your profile in the App.
  • Right to Correction: Update data via profile settings.
  • Right to Erasure: Settings → Delete Account (permanent and irreversible).
  • Right to Report: Users can report inappropriate content or misconduct through the Help icon on the Home page and selecting "Report User Behavior" or "Report Content." Reports are reviewed by our moderation team within 3 business days.
  • Right to Block: Block another user via Settings → Blocked Users. Blocked users’ blogs, eco-activity posts, comments and other user-generated content will no longer appear in your feeds across the app. You may unblock at any time from the same screen.
  • Right to Human Review: Request that your submission be reviewed only by a human administrator (no automated face comparison) — see Section 3A.
  • Right to Grievance Redressal: File complaints with our Grievance Officer (Section 9) or the Data Protection Board of India.
  • Right to Nominate: You may nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity. To nominate, send an email to info@climate-crusaders.com with the nominee's full name, relationship, and a scanned/photographed identity proof of the nominee. We will acknowledge within 48 hours and keep the nomination on file.
8. Children’s Privacy

Climate Crusaders is intended for users aged 13 years and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that a user under 13 has registered or provided personal data, we may suspend the account and delete the associated information.

4. Platform Services
Environmental Challenges

Users can participate in environmental challenges by submitting proof of completion (such as photos, videos, or text). Submissions are reviewed through a hybrid verification process consisting of:

  • Automated verification: If a challenge requires the participant to appear in the submission photo, AI-assisted image analysis may be used by the moderator to verify that the account holder appears in the submission. Details of this process are described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Manual review: All user-submitted challenge, event, blog, or eco-activity proofs are mandatorily reviewed by a human administrator before being accepted and published in the app. Administrators may approve, reject, or request re-submission.

Points are awarded only after successful verification. Users who prefer not to use automated verification may request manual-only review of their submission by contacting info@climate-crusaders.com.

Challenge of the Day

A daily featured challenge with additional points and limited slots on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rewards & Redemption (including Partner Coupons)
  • Points earned in the app may be redeemed for tree-plantation contributions or for discount coupons offered by partner organizations.
  • Partner coupons are redeemable only on the issuing partner's own website or platform and cannot be used for any purchase inside the Climate Crusaders app.
  • Points have no monetary or cash value and cannot be transferred, sold, or exchanged for cash.
  • Once redeemed, a coupon is non-refundable and non-transferable, except where required by applicable law. Points spent on redemption cannot be returned unless the coupon is cancelled due to a confirmed fault on our side.
  • Each partner coupon is subject to the issuing partner's own terms, availability limits, expiry dates, and redemption conditions. These appear on the coupon detail screen at the time of redemption.
  • BlueTerrain LLP acts only as an intermediary in coupon distribution. Honouring, fulfilling, refunding, or supporting a partner coupon is the sole responsibility of the issuing partner. Our liability regarding partner coupons is limited to the value of the points that were redeemed.
  • If a partner coupon cannot be redeemed due to partner-side issues, contact us at info@climate-crusaders.com within 7 days of attempted redemption. We will take up the matter with the partner in good faith.
Referral Program

Referral points are awarded when referred users complete qualifying activities. Abuse (fake accounts, self-referrals, fraudulent sign-ups) results in forfeiture of points and potential account termination.

Green Ambassador Program

The Green Ambassador designation is granted to individuals with proven contributions to sustainability, climate action, or environmental advocacy. Currently, Green Ambassadors are identified through direct offline outreach by the BlueTerrain LLP team; there is no self-nomination process inside the app at this time. BlueTerrain LLP reserves the right to grant or revoke this status at its discretion.

5. Points System
  • Points are non-transferable and have no cash or monetary value.
  • Point balances may be adjusted in cases of fraud, error, or system malfunction.
  • Tampering with the points system will result in immediate account termination.
  • Submissions with a self-image may earn higher points than submissions without; video submissions may earn additional bonus points where offered by the challenge.
6. Verification & Submission Requirements
  • Submissions must be original and reflect genuine completion of the challenge.
  • Photos and videos submitted as proof must be captured by the user and must not be copied from other sources.
  • Some challenges may require the participant to appear in the submitted media. If the required participant presence is not visible, the submission may be rejected or less points may be awarded.

All content must be truthful, original, appropriate for a 13+ audience, and must not infringe third-party rights. You shall not post obscene, defamatory, hateful, or illegal content. You shall not:

7B. Blocking Other Users

In addition to reporting, you may independently block any other user at any time via Settings → Blocked Users by entering that user’s username. Once blocked:

  • That user’s blogs, eco-activity posts, comments, and other user-generated content are hidden from all feeds you see in the app (Home, Community, Tips, Blog details, etc.).
  • Blocking is one-directional and only affects what you see; the blocked user is not notified and can continue to use the Platform normally.
  • You can unblock the user at any time from the same screen; their content will reappear in your feeds on next refresh.

You retain ownership of the original content you create and submit. You represent and warrant that any content you upload or submit is owned by you or that you have the necessary rights or permissions to share it, and that such content does not infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.

9. Third-Party Services & Partners

BlueTerrain LLP does not endorse or guarantee products, services, or claims of any third-party sponsor. The Platform acts as an intermediary and is not liable for quality, delivery, or fulfilment of partner rewards. Ads and sponsored content are curated by BlueTerrain LLP; we do not use any third-party advertising SDK or cross-app tracking for ad serving (see Privacy Policy Section 4A).

12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes shall be resolved through: (1) amicable negotiation (30 days), then (2) mediation (Indian Council of Arbitration), then (3) arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. You may also file a consumer complaint under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
